Kentucky Families
Know Best

The grassroots mission of Kentucky Consumers United is simple: protect the dignity and freedom of Kentucky families by defending their right to make their own food choices without government interference.

Kentucky families are resilient. Every day they stretch paychecks, balance budgets, and make the choices that keep their households running. Parents know what foods fit their children’s needs, their budget, and their family traditions. They know when to focus on nutrition and when to celebrate with a birthday cake or a favorite snack. These small, ordinary joys are part of family life and part of Kentucky’s identity.

We work to ensure that programs like SNAP provide the food security they were intended for, not a tool for politicians to micromanage diets. By standing up for families, supporting local businesses, and promoting education over restrictions, we are committed to keeping Frankfort out of Kentucky kitchens and preserving the values of self-reliance, respect, and choice that define our Commonwealth.

Standing Up for Kentucky Families

Protect the right of Kentucky families to make their own food choices without government interference.

SNAP is About Security, Not Control

Some lawmakers in Frankfort want to restrict what can be purchased with SNAP benefits. That’s not what the program was created to do. SNAP exists to provide food security during hard times, not to give politicians the power to micromanage diets. Families deserve respect, not judgment.

Restrictions stigmatize families who already face challenges.

Wealthier families choose freely; SNAP families should too.

SNAP provides food security, not government control.

The Consequences of Restrictions

When government bans are imposed, the harm spreads far beyond the dinner table. Families feel insulted and singled out, but local economies also take the hit.

What Really Builds Health

Government bans don’t create healthier families. They add red tape, resentment, and shame without addressing the real problems Kentuckians face. Hunger, affordability, and access are the true nutritional challenges. If lawmakers want to help, they should support education, opportunity, and access to good food—not dictate what’s in a grocery cart.

Bans and punishment don’t improve nutrition.

Education and opportunity build healthier habits.

Real problems: hunger, affordability, and access - not birthday cakes.
